Basketball January/February 2014

This was Kallen's first time playing basketball besides a 4 day camp at Westminster that he did last Summer.  He did pretty good and has a good lookin' shot (when he concentrates).  I actually got to coach the team since I was able to commit to each practice and game.  This was his first county rec league where there was actually a practice.  I think Kallen was the only child that made it to every practice only because I had to be there.  One week we only had 3 boys but other than that we always had at least 5 out of 9 kids.

The pictures didn't turn out very good since I had to be kind of close in order to coach.

Skiing February 2, 2014

This was Kallen's second time skiing.  We made it up once last year.  I want to make it up more than once this year.  He had another private lesson this morning and did awesome.  He even graduated to the bigger lift so we did probably 4 runs down the big lift.  After Kallen's lesson and after a half hour rest to warm up his feet we skied for another 3.5 hours.  I couldn't believe he kept at it that long.  We had a great day.  He is a little speed demon and likes to go fast straight down.  At least he didn't get yelled at to slow down this year.

Another great private lesson with instructor Richard!

Not sure what happened to the videos I embedded in the post but if you copy the link it will hopefully work.

Discovery Gateway

I was reading the paper and saw Discovery Gateway Children's Museum had a $5 pass on Sundays during January.  This was January 26th so I figured we better go.  I saw in the paper in February though that they are also doing it in February.  We took Trax downtown and enjoyed our visit.

January 2014 Randoms

 Hobie in the snow.
Kallen is no longer afraid of Griff!  He went and gave him a high five many times during the game and wanted his picture with him.

 Pretending to be like Hobie!
A fort Kallen built around Hobie.

Smith's Marketplace now has small shopping carts.  Perfect for Kallen.  He pushed the cart while I shopped, it was perfect.

A snowman that Kallen got to build at Children's Corner.  He has been anxiously waiting to build one each time it snows but it is either too dry or it is on a weekday when we don't have time before going to school and then it is dark when we get home.

New Bike From Santa

Kallen was excited to test out his new bike he got for Christmas from Santa.  We had planned to go one Sunday afternoon but it snowed on Saturday.  Luckily while on my run I found a nice long south facing sidewalk that had melted so we parked at the library and were able to ride up.  A couple weeks later we were also able to take the bike to the park.

 At the park.

First Lost Tooth

One Friday night in December Kallen said, "Look Mommy, my tooth is coming in."  I looked and yes, his big tooth was almost all the way in and his baby tooth hadn't come out.  It was Friday night so of course I could not call the dentist until Monday morning.  I didn't know if this was something to be concerned about or not.  I called the dentist and they said to give it 3 weeks and then call back.  Three weeks came and went but the tooth was not out.  I certainly didn't want to pull it.  Johnny tried a couple times, but luckily one of his teachers at Children's Corner likes to pull teeth out so Miss Jessie tried many times and got it really loose.  I got on the cancellation list at his dentist because the first appointment was 3 weeks out.  I didn't really want to take him to the dentist because they would use gas on him and I didn't want to pay for that and I also knew it would hurt and he already hates the dentist so he didn't want to go.  One morning I told him if he got his tooth out I would actually take him to the store to buy a toy.  Low and behold, the tooth came out that day at Children's Corner.  Kallen was watching a movie during movie time and he said he just pushed his tooth with his tongue and it popped right out, no blood and no pain.  The Tooth Fairy came that night and left Kallen a gold coin.
